Build a robot. Solve a real problem.
The W.A.F.F.L.E.S. FIRST LEGO League Challenge program for ages 9-14 was founded in 2006.
Students are presented with a real-world theme and a 4′ by 8′ field table with a variety of interactive LEGO models representing missions to tackle. They design, build, and program a LEGO SPIKE Prime robot to complete these missions. They also learn about the theme and discuss innovative solutions to real-world problems.
As much as the students learn about building, programming, and research, the program encompasses so much more. Teams learn about time-management, teamwork, self-confidence, leadership, and core values such as integrity, good sportsmanship, and sharing with the community.

What kids get out of it
- Research real-world challenges facing today’s scientists
- Build, test and program a LEGO robot
- Apply real-world math and science concepts
- Develop skills for critical thinking, teamwork, organization, presentation, and much more
- Make friends on the team and work with mentors from our older programs

This season: BIOGLOW
Join us for our 2026-2027 biodiversity-themed robotics season, part of FIRST CANOPY.
Nothing on Earth thrives alone. Every gene, species, and ecosystem is part of a rich web of biological diversity that powers clean air, fresh water, and food. With STEM as their tool and nature as inspiration, today’s boldest innovators are finding new ways to strengthen the connections that protect our shared home.

We are volunteer-led, so parents are welcome to get involved with their child’s team alongside our mentors. If you would like to help and are not sure how, let us know.
Registration terms. Payment for the session is due at the time of registration. Registration is non-refundable. If a cancellation request is made after registration, refunds (less a $75 administration fee) can only be issued if we are able to fill the spot from our waitlist.
How to join
Find the program that fits your child’s age. The LEGO programs need registration, so join our mailing list to hear when it opens. For the FRC team, come out to a meeting to check out the team, no commitment. Email info@wafflesrobotics.com and we will tell you when the next one is.
Everything meets at 575 Victoria Street in Kingston. No experience is needed for any program, and bursaries may be available for families who need them.
